Launch of the NATO SPS International Project

On September 7–8, 2026, the Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara hosted the meeting for NATO SPS Project G8917, “Environmental Monitoring and Impact Assessment for Post-Disaster Waste Management.” The project is funded by NATO’s “Science for Peace and Security” program.

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was represented by the project director from Ukraine, Associate Professor of the our department, Dr. Alexander Khokhotva, Ph.D. in Technical Sciences. The project focuses on environmental monitoring and waste management related to destruction caused by natural disasters (the earthquake in Turkey) and construction waste resulting from war-related destruction in Ukraine. This will make it possible to compare the two cases and draw on the German partners’ experience in waste recycling.

We would like to thank the organizers at METU for the invitation and our partners at TUHH (Germany), IZTECH and Koç University (Turkey) for their collaboration!
